What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of this job is making a difference in the student’s lives, and teaching them the proper way to approach a hazardous materials response. Mechanic mode and knee jerk reactions will be their first response. But when you see that lightbulb come on and what you taught them gets them to slow down during the chaos, I know I have really made a difference in their world. When they begin to identify the hazards and create a plan to reduce the danger, everyone goes home safely after the issue is resolved. That makes me continue to be excited to teach.

Outside of Work
My sabbatical is working in my yard, hunting for venison, and boating on northeast Oklahoma lakes (Tenkiller is my favorite). When I get off the road and need that rehab, these are the things I need in order to set everything right in the world.

This specific job has made me an early riser. Even while on vacation and weekends, I don’t have the ability to sleep in. Travel throughout the country allows me to try all types of foods, but BBQ still is one of my favorites.
